Thank you so much for taking the time to chat with us today! Can you please share a little bit about yourself and your company? (e.g., locations, service areas, specialties, etc.)
Thank you! My name is Sydnye Steen. I am the owner of Artisan Tile Studio, located in OKC, OK. I have been in the tile and stone business for most of my life. My father was a well-known stone fabricator in OKC, and I worked alongside him at his business for years. But, I admit I was always drawn more to the tile side of the business. When my father retired in 2015, I decided to follow my passion and open my own showroom, Artisan Tile Studio! We have recently expanded into a brand-new, state-of- the-art 7,000-square-foot showroom and warehouse space located in Oklahoma City. As a purveyor of hand selected tile and natural stone, I have traveled far and wide to find the most unique lines to carry in our showroom. We now have a curated collection of over 90 different lines that carry products varying between glass, stone, ceramic, porcelain, metal, and wood! We also work with many companies ( Allison Eden;) ) that can be completely customizable! So, whatever your tile dreams are, we can help you turn it into reality!
How did you get started in business, and what inspired you to venture into retailing tile and mosaic products?
My first answer says it all!
What led you to discover Allison Eden and Allison Eden Studios? What made you decide to carry their line of glass and stone mosaics in your store?
Allison Eden Studios actually found us! Gary called us and offered to send us some samples when I worked at my father's company:) It has been the most rewarding relationship since then! Not only can Allison do ANYTHING when it comes to custom mosaics, she also ALWAYS has the highest quality of craftsmanship in her work. They package their creations tediously and we have never received an order broken. Not to mention their customer service is outstanding, it's always a treat to call and talk to them!
Among the designs offered by Allison Eden, do you have any favorites? What do you think draws customers to the Allison Eden line?
My all-time favorite design is the waves! Our clients always gravitate towards it. You can make it bold and brash with bright colors or you can make it sexy and sleek with neutrals. Always a winner with us!
Could you share an interesting anecdote or project where a client installed an Allison Eden product? What was unique or memorable about that experience?
I did a project with a local designer about 5-7 years ago for her Family's business. They were building a local grocery store in Edmond, Oklahoma. We did two 36x36 custom mosaics of their logo and they were thrilled with the finished product. I didn't realize until I went to go see the installation of those mosaics that it was right near my house. That is now my go-to FAVORITE grocery store and I get to walk past and admire those logos every time I go!
As a retailer specializing in Allison Eden products, what are three key tips you can offer for successfully selling their glass and stone mosaics to your customers?
1. Show it off! We have a wall dedicated to Allison Eden right next to our front entrance. It is the first thing customers see when they walk in & out of our showroom. We also love to repost any of Allison's projects she shares on her social media. Sometimes people don't even know they want/or like something until they've seen it!
2. Explain lead times after you tell clients it is "made to order". Some other tile brands have lead times around 12-16 weeks for special orders and if you don't give the client a specific lead time they may assume it is 12-16 weeks like other companies and already cross it off as an option in their head. We always love to clarify that Allison's normal lead time is only about 4 weeks! Much more doable if they are on a little faster timeframe.
3. Talk about glass! Sometimes glass tile scares clients because they think the installation is much harder or that there will be lots of waste. Explain that working with glass is not scary but actually fun! Plus, glass adds such beautiful texture to a room!
Can you share an interesting fact about your own business that most people might not know? Something behind-the-scenes or unique about your operations?
We love what we do! We love design as a whole and are always looking for new innovations in tile and design!
